Discussion:
Suggestion: close fiji-users

Dear all,

I am considering to close the mailing list 'fiji-users' in favor of
moving all discussions to imagej-+***@public.gmane.org

Rationale: the intention of Fiji was never to separate from the ImageJ
community but instead to contribute to it.

Thoughts?

Ciao,
Johannes

Hi Dscho,
Post by Johannes Schindelin
I am considering to close the mailing list 'fiji-users' in favor of
+1 from me. It seems like most questions on fiji-users are not
Fiji-specific, so make more sense on the ImageJ users list.

Regards,
Curtis

As a follower of both lists, I already use rules to pool both sets of mail
in a single folder. The traffic is not overwhelming and the topics have
general ImageJ interest.

There needs to be a place where users can post Fiji-specific
questions. The ImageJ mailing list is not an appropriate place for
such questions.

Hello Wayne,

What makes questions specific to Fiji less appropriate than the many
questions specific to a plug-in that can be found on the ImageJ mailing
list?
In practice it is often hard for users to know what is fiji-specific:
the fiji-users list contains several examples of questions really
related to ImageJ or some plug-in (in my selected archived posts I find
"StackReg Output", "z maximum intensity projection", just to give some
examples). So subscribers to the imagej-list only, in the present
configuration actually miss interesting information, in exchange to
reduced "noise" (for those who don't use Fiji) about Fiji.

The idea is that Fiji Is Just ImageJ. I always meant Fiji to deviate from
ImageJ only insofar that it provides the most convenient way to install
ImageJ+plugins+Java for life sciences.

So: there should not be any "Fiji-specific" user questions... ;-)

Ciao,
Johannes

P.S.: This mail regards fiji-users only. There is another vote for merging
fiji-devel into imagej-devel, but that is another issue: it concerns only
very technical questions.
